Great Western Railway Collett Coaches

warning: This page is best viewed with a wide screen (greater than 1200 pixels wide).

Collett's shorter standard coaches started to appear just a year after the sleek 70' South Wales Sets debuted; looking the same in every way. For 6 years until August 1929 Swindow turned out these standard designs. Very surprisingly, they even made them all to the same length, 57' along the sides, or 58'4" long including the bow-ends. Although most designs had bow-ends none of them were turned out with buckeye couplings or Pullman gangways. Most coaches of this time had Collett's new 7' bogie.

In 1925 6 6-coach trains were outshopped with 2 each of E127, C54 & D94. In 1927 another 16 6-coach trains were outshopped with 2 each of E127, C54 & D95. And again in 1929 another 3 6-coach trains were outshopped with 2 each of D104, E136 & C54. The last 62 coaches to diagrams C58 and D104 were formed in to 6 Excursion Sets, but unlike later excursion sets these designs had compartments.
