Great Western Railway Collett Coaches

warning: This page is best viewed with a wide screen (greater than 1200 pixels wide).

The 1936 Sunshine Stock was followed in 1938 by 486 passenger coaches of similar designs except these coaches had some windows in the corridor side with opening metal-frames ventilators above a large fixed window and there were no droplights except in the doors.   Also the doors in the corridor side reverted to being 4 doors similar to the 1933-35 stock but with 2 of the doors at the ends.   The compartment side however still had only 2 doors, one at each end of the coach.   These coaches were slightly narrower than the 1936 Sunshine stock and the same width as the non-corridor coaches that were built from 1937.   Unlike earlier designs the length was not standardized and 4 different length underframes were produced.   They ran on 9' light pressed steel bogies.
