| Churchward took notice of the public's dislike of the Dreadnoughts because of their lack of doors to compartments, and so the Concertina coach was built. Concertina coaches are so called because the doors are flat whilst the body has a tumblehome. Whilst not as wide as the preceeding Dreadnoughts, the Concertinas were still 70' long. There were toplights above all of the fixed windows and the body had wooden panels similar to the last Dean coaches. Over the years, as repairs became necessary, these toplights and panels got plated over with steel plates. |
