From 1904 all coaches received a central Garter with a pair of supporters as previously only applied to first class coaches.

1912 Lake Brown livery as shown by a R5 at Newton Abbot. The GWR letters in the waist panel are only once above the garter emblem.
The 1923 livery was very similar to the post 1904, but is distinguished by the coach number in the end waist panels, rather than the eaves panels.

This U29 in the 1924/5 livery shows details of the 1923 livery and the addition of cream strips between the windows and doors.
In 1927 the livery was greatly simplified to cream above the waist and brown below with no lining except a black line to divide the two.   However, the black line appears to have been missed off on many 4 wheelers.   Initally the Garter and Supporters were kept, but by the autumn they had been replaced by a Coat of Arms device in the centre as on this T64 number 1981.

In 1929 a gold line was added below the central horizontal black line and a second black line added at the top of the side.

By the 1930s 4 wheel coaches were generally reaching the end of their life. Most had been converted for use in workmans' trains and therefore received a simple all over brown livery.   'Third' was written twice in the waist panels and there was no Coat of Arms below the GWR.   When the GWR roundel was adopted in 1934 it was used in place of GWR as shown in the bottom photo of T31 number 4189.
