Great Western Railway Collett Coaches

Just as the last 3 lots of the Riviera Stock was ordered so was the first of the tapered side stock with wider route availability was ordered.   Approximately 3" narrower at the cornice and waist these coaches were visually very similar to the Riviera stock with the same recessed door handles and guard's doors.   However most were built with Collett's recent 7' bogie, which is a key identification feature.   Almost 200 corridor and 280 non-corridor tapered side stock were completed between 1930 and 1933.   The H39 and H40 dining cars were the last Collett design to feature bottom hinged toplights.
